Impressive performance by Fords at Dickinson Invite

CARLISLE, Pa. - The Haverford College women's cross country team ran to a first-place finish in the long course portion of the Dickinson Invitational hosted by Dickinson College Saturday morning.

Competing solely in the long course portion of the invitational, the Fords, ranked 23rd in this week's U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III poll, accumulated 20 points to finish first as a team in the 6,000 meter race. Muhlenberg College (36 points) placed second and Swarthmore College and 12th-ranked Dickinson College (45 points) tied for third.

Junior Emily Scott led the impressive effort by Haverford with a fifth-place finish of 23 minutes, 33.6 seconds while freshman Nora Weathers followed closely behind in sixth (23:34.7).

The Fords had four runners finish in the top-10 as freshman Fiona Hendry and sophomore Katie Balmer placed ninth (23:50.0) and tenth (23:57.3), respectively. Senior Sara Hess rounded out Haverford's scoring places with a 12th-place finish (24:00.0).

Senior Andrea Tocci (24:07.6) and junior Chelsea Thorsheim (24:11.0) also finished in the top-15 of a field of over 200 runners.

The Fords will now set their sights on the Princeton Invitational hosted by Princeton University on Oct. 13.
