TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Haverford College women's cross country team capped an impressive season with a 13th-place finish at the 2012 NCAA Division III national championship meet Saturday afternoon held at LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
Johns Hopkins University took the team title with 158 points. Wartburg College (221) and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (223) finished in second and third, respectively. Rounding out the top five were Williams College (266) and the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire (272).
The Fords accumulated 338 points to finish in the top-15 of the national championship field for the sixth time in program history.
Freshman Fiona Hendry placed 23rd in 21 minutes, 44.2 seconds to lead the Haverford effort over the six-kilometer course. Hendry (pictured) earned All-American honors by finishing in the top-35 of the field of 277 runners.
Running in the national meet for the fourth time, Andrea Tocci closed out her career with an 83rd-place finish (22:36.3).
Nora Weathers and Katie Balmer finished 107th and 128th, respectively, while junior Chelsea Thorsheim (158th) was the Fords' final scorer.
Emily Scott (196th) and Sara Hess (223rd) also competed in the championship race hosted by the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
The national champion Blue Jays had captured the Centennial Conference and Mideast region crowns on their way to the title with the Fords finishing second on each occasion. Also representing the Centennial, Dickinson College placed 23rd.
Christy Cazzola of the University of Washington-Oshkosh raced to the individual title with a time of 20:55.
