Solid performance by Haverford women at Main Line Invite

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's cross country team delivered an impressive performance on Thursday afternoon as five Fords finished in the top 25 at the Main Line Invitational led by Nora Weathers who finished 10th.

Weathers, the first Division III runner to cross the line, registered a time of 17 minutes, 30.19 seconds to pace the Haverford effort in the annual meet at Alumni Course for the second consecutive season. The sophomore finished 14th in 2012.

Senior Emily Scott and freshman Clarice Bourland were the next two D-III finishers in 14th and 16th, respectively. Scott improved her time from last year's Main Line Invitational by over 40 seconds as she ran the three-mile course in 17:39.35 while Bourland, in just her second race in a Haverford uniform, finished in 17:47.62.

Juniors Kelley Riffenburgh (19th, 17:51.46) and Charlotte Lellman (21st, 17:54.50) also earned spots in the top 25 of the field of over 80 runners. Lellman's time was almost 48 seconds better than her performance in the same race in September of last season.

Villanova's Emily Lipari posted Thursday's winning time of 16:08.03 as five Wildcats finished in the top seven overall.

This year's field also included runners from Gwynedd Mercy University, LaSalle University, Swarthmore College, University of Pennsylvania and Widener University.

The Fords, ranked fourth in the Mideast Region and 27th nationally, return to action on Oct. 5 when they compete at Lehigh University in Lehigh's Paul Short Run.
