No. 26 Women's Cross Country Finishes 23rd at Princeton Invite

PRINCETON, N.J. –The No. 26 Haverford College women's cross country team placed 23rd out of 35 teams that competed at the Princeton Invitational on Saturday afternoon with 620 points. The race gave the Fords a chance to see where they currently rank in the region as both Elizabethtown (19th, 562 points) and Swarthmore (25th, 689 points) competed in the race, while Johns Hopkins (29th) splits its team between Princeton and Wisconsin. Haverford also sent individuals to compete in the open race, placing 22nd of 29 teams in that race.

Nora Weathers led the Fords to the finish line as she placed 85th overall in the main field which featured 278 entrants. Weathers finished in a time of 23:03, scoring 80 points for the Fords. Haverford finished with a spread of 55 seconds among its top five runners.

After Weathers crossed the line, Kelley Riffenburgh, Maggie Heffernan and Charlotte Lellman all came across the line within a span of 11 seconds as the Fords' second through fourth runners. Riffenburgh was 132nd overall with a time of 23:32. Heffernan placed eight spots behind her in 140th with a time of 23:40, while Lellman was four seconds behind Heffernan to place 144th in the field.

Nicole Giannetti was the Fords' final scorer as she placed 166th in the field with a time of 23:58. Two more freshmen, MaryKate Cavanaugh (24:03) and Amelia Keyser-Gibson (24:33) rounded out the Haverford top seven. Cavanaugh was six spots behind Giannetti, placing 166th, while Keyser-Gibson placed 202nd. Katherine Greifeld also ran in the main field, placing 236th overall with a time of 25:16.

In the open race, Sarah Wade was the first runner across the line for Haverford as she finished with a personal best time of 24:22 and placed 58th overall. The freshman's time broke her previous personal best set at the Paul Short Invitational by nine seconds.

Molly Allen (25:15) and Alison Love (25:32) each broke the 26-minute mark by placing 110th and 137th overall, respectively. Amelia Williams and Margaret Duffy came in with times of 26:15 and 26:27. Allison Hacker (27:46), Amanda Glavin (28:59), Rebecca Fisher (29:59), and Liana Alves (32:12) rounded out the contingent of runners for Haverford in the open race on Saturday.

Women's cross country will return to its home course next Friday to run in the Haverford Open. That meet will get underway at 4:30 p.m. The Haverford Open will be the final competition before the Centennial Conference Championship comes to Haverford on November 1.
