Women's Cross Country Finishes Third at Conference Meet

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Running on its home course, the Haverford College women's cross country team, ranked No. 26 in the nation according to the latest USTFCCCA rankings, finished third overall in the team standings at the 2014 Centennial Conference Cross Country Championship.

The Fords finished with 86 points, while Johns Hopkins (20 points) and Dickinson (52 points) claimed the top two slots. Swarthmore (99 points) and Muhlenberg (165 points) rounded out the top five teams in the meet.

Junior Nora Weathers led the Fords to the finish line with a 10th place finish. Weathers crossed the line in a time of 22:46.8. Her finish gives her second-team All-Centennial Conference honors for the second consecutive season as the eighth through 14th place runners earned second-team accolades. The top seven finishers in the race were named first-team all-conference. Johns Hopkins' junior Sophia Meehan (21:37.0) was the first runner across the line as she was named the Centennial Conference Runner of the Year.

Just missing out on all-conference accolades were Charlotte Lellman and Kelley Riffenburgh as Haverford's No. 2 and No. 3 runners on the day placed 16th and 17th, respectively. Lellman finished in a time of 23:11.7. Riffenburgh crossed the line just behind her teammate in a time of 23:15.2.

Reigning Centennial Conference Runner of the Week Maggie Heffernan and freshman Nicole Giannetti rounded out the Fords' five scorers in the conference meet. Heffernan placed 20th overall in a time of 23:24.8, while Giannetti placed 37th in her conference debut with a time of 23:57.1. Amelia Keyser-Gibson (24:01.7) and Katherine Greifeld (24:14.1) were the Fords' sixth and seventh finishers on the afternoon. Keyser-Gibson placed 40th overall. Greifeld was 44th in the individual standings.

Molly Allen (24:21.5), MaryKate Cavanaugh (24:28.7), Sarah Wade (24:30.5), Alison Love (24:43.3), and Margaret Duffy (25:40.5) rounded out the Fords' 12 runners in the varsity race on the women's side.

Up next for the women's cross country team will be the Mideast Regional. That regional will be run in two weeks on Saturday, November 15 in Newville, Pa. That race will begin at noon with the top two teams earning automatic bids to the NCAA Championship.
