Weathers Leads Women's Cross Country at Main Line Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Running on the Alumni Cross Country Course for potentially the final time in her career, Nora Weathers placed 18th overall to lead the Haverford College women's cross country team at the Main Line Invitational on Friday evening. With the Main Line sandwiched in between two other meets, the Fords ran just one junior, one sophomore, and three freshmen in addition to Weathers.

On top of rival Swarthmore, the field of six teams also included Division I institutions Villanova, Penn, Temple, and La Salle. Weathers recorded her 18th place finish in the field of 75 runners with a time of 17:38. Her time placed her second overall among the Division III runners in the field.

Freshmen Sophia Drew and Julia Smith were the next two Fords across the line. Drew came in 55th overall with a time of 19:37, while Smith was just behind her in the placements with a 61st place mark and a time of 20:41. Haverford's lone sophomore in the race, Liana Alves, ran to a 68th place finish in a time of 21:17.

Freshman Stephanie Lukez rounded out the Fords' scoring performances as she was the fifth Haverford runner to cross the line. Her time of 21:52 was good for 71st in the race. The lone Haverford junior, Michaela Novakovic, came in right behind her teammate in the standings with a time of 23:12.

The women's cross country team will return to competition next weekend at the Long/Short Invitational that is hosted by Dickinson College in Newville, Pa. Next Saturday's race is scheduled for a 10 a.m. start on the women's side.
