GLASSBORO, N.J. – Running against a strong field that featured numerous teams expected to compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships, the No. 25 Haverford College women's cross country team placed 15th overall out of 45 teams at the Rowan Inter-Regional Border Battle. The race was the last competition for the majority of the team's runners before the Centennial Conference Championships in two weekends.
The field of all Division III schools was so deep that No. 1 SUNY Geneseo placed third overall and St. Lawrence, a team ranked No. 12 in the most recent national poll, finished 11th in this race. Haverford scored 388 points for its 15th place finish. Johns Hopkins won the event against the highly-touted field.
Katie Sullivan continued her strong season as the Fords' junior was 27th overall in a field of 386 runners as she crossed the line in a time of 21:37.1. Haverford's top four finishers all came from that junior class as Nicole Giannetti was next across the finish in a personal best time of 22:12.0 to place 60th.
Amelia Keyser-Gibson also cracked the top 100 runners as she placed 98th with a time of 22:40.8. MaryKate Cavanaugh was the team's fourth finisher in a time of 22:43.2. That time cut over 30 seconds off her previous best time at the 6,000 meter distance. Freshman Abigail Doroshow was the team's fifth finisher as she competed for the third straight weekend. Doroshow finished in a time of 22:55.5 to place 124th.
Haverford's sixth and seventh finishers came across the line with personal best times of their own. Mckenna Krall placed 230th with a new best time of 23:54.5. Sophie Drew was the team's seventh finisher with a time of 23:57.1. Alison Love was the team's last entrant in the varsity race and she placed 244th with a time of 24:11.0.
The Fords also showcased their depth with an eighth place finish in the open race. Sarah Wade led the team to the finish in that race as she finished with a time of 23:30.0 and finished 12th overall in that field of 167 runners.
Although many team members may sit out to prepare for the Centennial Conference Championship, the Fords will host the Haverford Invitational next Friday with the women's race going off at 4:30 p.m.
