Haverford Athletics' Game Day Policies
The NCAA prohibits the use of tobacco products by all game personnel (e.g. coaches, trainers, managers and game officials) in all sports during practice and competition (NCAA Article 11.1.5)
Smoking and the consumption of alcohol are prohibited at all of Haverford’s athletic venues. Please respect your fellow spectators and the student-athletes by complying with this regulation.
As per NCAA rules, artificial noisemakers, air horns and electronic amplifiers are not permitted.
- Please refer to the Haverford College Campus Map for all visitor parking locations.
- Parking on grass is NOT PERMITTED.
- Parking is further subject to all College parking rules and regulations currently in place.
- Haverford College Safety and Security will monitor parking areas for compliance with College policies and issue tickets to those not in compliance.
- All Buses should park in the South lot – no buses are permitted in the PECO lot. State law prohibits “any diesel powered motor vehicle with a gross weight of 10,001 lbs. or more from idling for more than five minutes in any continuous 60 minute period…. buses, school buses and school vehicles may idle for 15 minutes in a continuous 60 minute period when passengers are aboard.” Pennsylvania’s Diesel-Powered Motor Vehicle Idling Act (Act 124 of 2008)

As such, we ask that you respect all participants and spectators by cheering on your team’s efforts rather than degrading the opponent or officials. Whether you are supporting Haverford or a rival, every competitor has worked extremely hard on-and-off the field/court/track to represent his/her institution and deserves our respect.
Haverford maintains high expectations for all of our students and strives to be a model in many areas – sportsmanship among them. Below are the expectations Haverford, the Centennial Conference and the NCAA have for our students and spectators – please join us in creating an environment in which all competitors can appreciate the Division III athletic experience. Problematic behavior may result in your immediate removal from an athletic venue.

All spectators are asked to represent their team, the athletic department, and institution in a manner that reflects positively on all student-athletes. Haverford encourages spectators to support student-athletes whenever possible but not to have their behavior as fans detract from the accomplishments of or shift the focus from those athletes who are competing.
Centennial Conference Sportsmanship Statement
"The Centennial Conference promotes good sportsmanship by student-athletes, coaches and spectators. We request your cooperation by supporting the participants and officials in a positive manner. Profanity, racial or sexist comments, or other intimidating actions directed at officials, student-athletes, coaches or team representatives will not be tolerated and are grounds for removal from the site."
From the NCAA Principle of Sportsmanship and Ethical Conduct
For intercollegiate athletics to promote character development of participants, to enhance the integrity of higher education and to promote civility in society, student-athletes, coaches, and all others associated with these athletics programs and events should adhere to such fundamental values as respect, fairness, civility, honesty, and responsibility. These values should be manifest not only in athletics participation but also in the broad spectrum of activities affecting the athletics program.
- Tailgating activities CANNOT obstruct the flow of traffic or interfere with the overall operation of the College
- Any tents used for tailgating must not exceed 10’x20’ in size and must be weighted in some way so that they do not blow away and become dangerous projectiles
- All waste & food items must be placed in the nearest trash receptacle at the conclusion of the tailgate. It is advised that tailgates bring additional trash bags.
- Grilling – propane, charcoal or open fires are prohibited. Grills are strictly limited to those supplied and supervised by the Dining Center. Please contact a Dining Center Manager at 610-896-1108 to make arrangements.
- All tailgates that involve the consumption of alcoholic beverages are to be restricted soley to the South Parking Lot. Please see the Campus Map for the location of the South Lot
- Beverages, including alcohol, are limited to those contained in plastic or aluminum cans. Glass bottles, kegs, beer balls or other common source containers are not permitted. Distilled beverages/liquor are not permitted.
- No alcohol may be provided to anyone under the age of 21 – this is the responsibility of the individual(s) or group(s) sponsoring the tailgate and not the College, but the College requires strict compliance with this state law.
- All alcohol is to be consumed in the designated area. Alcohol is prohibited at all athletic venues. Public consumption of alcoholic beverages on any other part of campus is prohibited and subject to College/local law enforcement.
- The College, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to cancel or end a tailgating event without notice should circumstances warrant.
- Any violation of tailgating regulations may result in immediate termination of tailgating privileges and could result in criminal prosecution and/or disciplinary action by the Office of Safety and Security, the Office of the Dean of the College or local law enforcement agencies.
*Note: If anyone wishes to inquire about an indoor space for a postgame tailgate, please contact Melynda Link, Athletic Facilities Manager and Director of Game Day Operations, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 610-896-1125. In the event of inclement weather, if an indoor space has not already been reserved, there will not be one made available. Reservations for spaces must be made at least 2 weeks in advance. All College regulations must be adhered to for the specified indoor space.
