Training Principles

MISSION STATEMENT

The Haverford College Strength and Conditioning Department's goal is to maximize health and performance in school, sports, and life for each individual. Our approach begins with a commitment to two Core Values: Honest Communication and All-In. The course of action entails committing to the following principles:

1. MINDSET

Attack each day WITH A PURPOSE! Determine your goals and establish a process, take advantage of the frequent opportunities to grow incrementally, and embrace adversity.

2. TRAINING PLAN

Training programs are designed to meet the movement and fitness needs of the sport and individual, while also being adjustable for daily state of preparedness. Each phase has a specific goal, aiming to “peak” for competition. Within these phases, training sessions are designed to maximize movement efficiency. To do this, emphasis is placed on a.) proper movement patterns, b.) integrated exercises in multiple directions, and c.) powerful intent.

3. LIFESTYLE

Habits formed outside of training will determine the success of the program. Optimal recovery and regeneration requires a commitment to doing the right things throughout each day. Sleep, healthy intake (fuel and hydration), and being mindful will maximize results and prevent overtraining.

4. EVALUATION

To prepare training programs for individuals and teams, and then determine the success of those programs, a variety of variables must be quantified. This process includes movement screening, preparedness monitoring, and performance assessments.
