Season Review: Baseball Makes 10th Straight Postseason Appearance

Signature Wins: In the first home contest of the season, Haverford took down #16 ranked TCNJ by a final score of 7-3 (March 30) … In the contest, the Fords were paced by starting pitcher Tom Phillips, who tossed six innings allowing just one run …At home against Muhlenberg (Apr. 18) the Fords walked off as winners as Matt Goss delivered an RBI single to seal victory … Needing a pair of wins to clinch a playoff berth, Haverford delivered in both ends of a doubleheader against Gettysburg (Apr. 29) as an Ethan Lee-Tyson three-run homer helped propel the Fords in game one before Haverford came back from multiple deficits to outlast the Bullets on the road, clinching a return trip to the Centennial Conference tournament … As the second seed in the Centennial tournament, Haverford opened up at home against Ursinus (May 4), walking off with a  5-4 win on a walk-off fielder's choice after Phillips went eight strong innings without allowing an earned run, striking out six Ursinus hitters in the process.

Season Notes: The Fords qualified for the Centennial Conference tournament for the 10th straight season and the 12th time in 13 seasons … Haverford reached the 20-win plateau for the seventh time in eight campaigns … The Fords were aggressive on the base paths all season, swiping three bases per contest, the second best mark in Division III … Displaying power up and down the lineup, the Fords 1.05 home runs per game was seventh in the nation … Defensive prowess up the middle resulted in Haverford averaging 1.24 double plays per game the second most in the nation …Lee-Tyson became Haverford's 26th first-team selection in program history … Lee-Tyson is Haverford's first selection to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region first team since Tommy Bergjans in 2015 and the first position player elected to the first team since Charlie Carluccio in 2011 … Lee-Tyson is the first Haverford position player to garner D3Baseball.com's All-Mid-Atlantic recognition since Alex Hudak and Casey Fox in 2013.

Looking ahead: Haverford graduates a talented senior class that includes pitchers Jared Deveau, John Masella and Anthony Rizzo as well as two-way players Ben Verducci and Yannick Villanueva and outfielder Thomas Vollaro … Haverford will return both All-Region and All-Centennial talents in Lee-Tyson and Ben Furlong as 21 total Fords are slated to return for the 2017-18 season ... After successful first-year campaigns as everyday starters, Harrison Burns and Will Karp will return while Dylan Livingston and Brandon Jenkins look to evolve further after breakout campaigns on the mound.
