FORT MYERS, Fla. - After scoring 17 runs in its win over No. 16 Wooster on Monday, the Haverford College baseball team erupted for 32 runs and 37 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Hiram (2-4) The Fords (4-4) hit .487 as a team in the two contests, taking victories of 17-0 and 15-6 in a pair of seven inning contests. Will Karp hit an incredible .857 on the day, with three doubles, a triple, a home run, and six RBI. Zach Landry mashed three homers and two doubles, racking up 10 RBI and scoring six runs. A total of 11 different Haverford players had multiple hits on the day.

In the first game of the morning, Haverford jumped for a pair of early runs in the first inning. Karp doubled to lead off the contest ahead of a Landry double. With one out, Luke Wallis joined the action with an RBI single. Karp continued his banner day in the bottom of the second, knocking in an RBI single before Landry connected on a towering three-run homer to put the Fords up 6-0. Wallis roped his second single in as many at-bats for a 7-0 cushion.

Luke Smith drilled a two-RBI single in the third, and after Wallis singled to open the fourth, Grant Schwartz and Ryan Schwartz had back-to-back RBI hits. Matt Sabitsky then doubled into the gap to plate a run, and Karp later notched a sacrifice fly, setting the stage for Landry with two outs. Landry wasted no time adding to the sizable lead yet again, putting the Fords up 15-0 with his second homer of the day. Sabitsky added a double down the right field line in the fifth to reflect the 17-0 scoreline.

Outside of the ferocious day from the offense, First-year hurler Josh Fuller (1-0) put together a masterful performance on the mound. Fuller allowed just three hits, and struck out eight, for a shutout in his first collegiate start.

The second game featured the same offensive energy from the Fords, with three runs straight away in the first frame. The opening stanza saw Karp rope a leadoff double before Landry again rocketed an extra-base hit, pulling into second base for a 1-0 lead. Owen Plambeck and Zach Crampton also knocked in runs during that stretch. In the second, Karp blasted a one-out homer to straight away center, and consecutive singles from Landry, Luke Smith, and Owen Plambeck loaded the bases for Zach Becker. The first-year singled into left field before Ben Somorjai reached on an infield single and Haverford went up 6-0.

A five-run third was highlighted by Karp earning his third leg of the cycle with an RBI triple. Landry connected on a sacrifice fly to plate the eighth run of the contest, and Somorjai then kept the line moving with his second RBI single in as many at-bats. Crampton singled home the 11th run of the contest, blowing the game wide open for Haverford.

Hiram added a pair of runs in the fourth, fifth, and sixth frames, but one more Haverford offensive salvo was in store for the sixth. Karp and Landry were again the sparkplugs, as a Crampton double served as a prelude to a two-RBI double for Karp. Landry then added his third home run of the day, sending a ball screaming to right center for a 15-4 advantage.

Ryan Giovenco (1-0) got the start for Haverford, tossing four innings and allowing just two earned runs with two strikeouts. Thomas Primosch, Justin McAllister, and Brandon Jenkins were all effective in relief outings to close out the day.

Haverford is off from competition on Wednesday, and returns to action at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic with a single contest against Carroll (Wis.) on Thursday morning. The first pitch of that contest is slated for 9 a.m.
