Fall 2019 Cricket Schedule

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College Cricket team has announced the fall portion of its 2019-20 schedule. The slate includes six weekend matinee contests on Cope Field as part of a seven-match gauntlet through September and October.

The Haverford XI begins the season with a noon showdown against Prior Cricket Club on Sunday, September 8. The season-opener will be the 36th all-time matchup between Haverford and Prior, as the two sides last met in the 2011-12 season. The series dates back to the 1974 campaign.

On Saturday, September 14, Philadelphia Area Intercollegiate action begins with a showdown against Temple at noon. The weekend continues with another intercollegiate clash against Penn on Sunday, September 15 at noon. On Saturday, September 22, the Fords will match up with British Officers Cricket Club at noon. The two sides played recently, in the 2019 spring season, with Haverford coming away victorious. In total, British Officers holds a slight 25-23-2 edge in the all-time series, with all but one of those matchups coming on the Haverford campus. The annual alumni match is slated for an 11 a.m. start on September 28, before the month wraps up with a short jaunt to Merion Cricket Club for the sole road match of the fall. Haverford currently holds a 32-28-5 series record against their local rivals, in a series that dates back to 1896.

On Saturday, October 5, the Fords will host their final contest of the 2019 portion of the schedule, against an opponent still to be determined.

Haverford finished the regular season at 9-6 a season ago, and will return in the fall behind new captains as Daniel Van Beveren '20 and Kaito Nakatani '21 step into the leadership role for the 2019-20 campaign. With a wealth of experience from a season ago, including an international tour to London to play against some truly elite competition, the expectations are high for the Fords. Kamran Khan's squad will look to recapture the Philadelphia Area Intercollegiate championship for the second time in three seasons next spring.
