PHILADELPHIA – Haverford College cricket senior co-captain Daniel Van Beveren has been named to the 2019-20 Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area At-Large team, the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA) announced in a release on Tuesday morning. Van Beveren joined Haverford fencers Kadan Lottick and Nicholas Conroy on earning a spot on the At-Large team.

The Inquirer's at-large squads take into account those student-athletes from area schools whose sports do not have a dedicated Academic All-Area team. In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.

The physics major is the primary bowler for the Haverford Cricket XI, helping to lead the team to the 2018 Philadelphia Intercollegiate Championship with a dramatic triumph over Temple. Van Beveren, a Chesapeake, Va. product, received the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship in 2019. The award, which covers tuition, fees, room and board up to a maximum of $7,500 per year, supports sophomores and juniors in excellent academic standing who intend to pursue research careers in the natural sciences, mathematics, or engineering. Van Beveren was one of 496 scholarship winners selected from a field of over 1,200 nationwide nominees in 2019.

The senior used his funds to study at the University of Maryland, College Park last summer, performing experimental studies on turbulent fluid flows.

Van Beveren captained the Fords as the team wrapped up the fall schedule with a 4-2 record, including four consecutives victories to begin the season. That stretch was highlighted by triumphs over long-time foes Germantown and British Officers.
