COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Haverford College men's basketball team got a game-high 21 points from senior captain Matt Sherman, but it was not enough to overcome a balanced scoring effort from Ursinus as the Bears came away with an 87-58 win on Thursday night.

Sherman's scoring output now gives him 905 points for his career and moves him into the program's top 20 all-time. Joe Hartman also came away from the contest with double figures as he scored 10 points off the bench. Matt Knowles tied Sherman's 21 points to lead Ursinus as he was one of seven players who scored at least six points.

Unlike their last game where the Fords got off to a great start against Franklin & Marshall, it was the Bears that jumped out early on Thursday with Ursinus scoring 26 of the game's first 29 points. However, when the Fords found their offensive grove midway through the opening half, they came storming back to carry the momentum as the team's headed for the half.

During the final seven-plus minutes of the opening half, the Fords outscored Ursinus by an 18-6 margin. That overall advantage was 30-13 after Ursinus reached its largest advantage of the half. Sherman scored 14 of his 21 points during the opening half, with a three-pointer right before the buzzer bringing his team within six, 39-33, at the break.

However, it was another big run for Ursinus that ultimately put the game out of reach. With Haverford hanging around early in the second half, Ursinus went on a 13-2 run. Building its lead at the end, Ursinus' margin of victory matched its largest lead of the evening.

Men's basketball will close out the month of January this Saturday against Dickinson. Tip off inside the Gooding '84 Arena is set for 3 p.m. with the women's game scheduled for a 1 p.m. start. The Fords will be at home during four of the team's next six contests.
