HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's basketball team (3-3) continued its non-conference slate but fell short against visiting Arcadia (3-4), 77-69 in Wednesday night action in Gooding '84 Arena.
The Fords struggled to capitalize on their high-volume shooting, finishing 27-of-84 (32%) from the field and 7-of-34 (21%) from three-point range. Despite the challenges from the field, Haverford displayed resilience, rallying in the second half to cut a 16-point halftime deficit to single digits.
The dynamic duo of Gaven Marr and Sir William Morman III led the charge for Haverford. Marr filled the stat sheet with 16 points, nine rebounds, and a pivotal three-pointer early in the second half. Morman also contributed 16 points, including three timely triples. Their efforts, combined with relentless offensive rebounding (24 total for Haverford), kept the game competitive down the stretch.Christian Uremovich and Ali Kaan Bek provided critical support for the short-handed Fords, each adding 11 points. Uremovich shot an efficient 5-of-7 from the field, while Kaan Bek showcased his defensive tenacity, grabbing key rebounds and disrupting passing lanes.
Arcadia's Jamison Lynam stole the spotlight, leading all scorers with 22 points, including a 3-of-4 clip from beyond the arc. Corey Attivo and Dom Vazquez added 11 points each, with Attivo controlling the paint with eight rebounds and two blocks.
The Knights started strong, jumping out to a 13-6 lead on a Lynam triple with 15:48 remaining in the first half. Despite an early nine-point deficit, the Fords fought back, with Uremovich and Morman contributing key buckets. A late first-half surge, highlighted by a Marr layup and a Morman triple, cut the Arcadia lead to eight, 34-26, heading into halftime.
Haverford opened the second half with renewed energy. Marr's three-pointer brought the Fords within two possessions, and they remained within striking distance throughout. Derin Ongur's free throw trimmed the gap to five at 45-40, but Arcadia responded with a 6-0 run to regain control. Kaan Bek reignited Haverford's offense with a clutch three-pointer, followed by Uremovich's layup to close the deficit to 51-45.
The Fords continued to battle, as Ongur connected from deep to make it a four-point game with 7:01 remaining. Moments later, Morman electrified the Gooding Arena crowd with a layup, pulling Haverford within one possession at 58-55.
Arcadia, however, responded with a 4-0 run to create breathing room. Despite a late push from Kaan Bek, whose triple cut the deficit to 66-63, and despite Marr's late bucket, a costly turnover and timely free throws by Arcadia sealed the game.
The Fords will look to bounce back when they host Neumann on Saturday, December 7, at 2 p.m. inside Gooding '84 Arena, continuing their five-game homestand.
