Chase and Dougherty Named CSA Scholar Athletes for Men's Squash

CSA Men's Scholar Athletes

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College men's squash junior co-captains Davis Chase and Fitz Dougherty were each named to the College Squash Association (CSA) Scholar Athletes list on Wednesday afternoon, earning the plaudits in their first season of eligibility for the award.

The Scholar-Athlete Award (varsity team players) and Academic Recognition Award (club team players) are granted to juniors or seniors who have played on the team throughout their college career, participated in the majority of the team's matches in the top 10 of the lineup during the season, and achieved a high academic standing at their institution. CSA Scholar Athletes embody the values of the association, achieving a high level of play on court while excelling in the classroom.

Chase, a Chemistry major from Pomfret, Conn, finishes his third season with 32 career wins, playing primarily at the top flight. Chase went 13-4 at the top flight during the 2019-20 season, and was picked to represent Haverford at the CSA Team Championships in Philadelphia early last month.

Dougherty, an Environmental Studies major from nearby Villanova, Pa., went 6-3 at the second flight and an unblemished 7-0 at the third flight during the 2019-20 campaign. Dougherty, a Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area selection following the 2019 season, continued his impressive career as he finished his third full season tied for fifth in program history with 40 career wins. His .769 career winning percentage (40-12) is currently the best in program history among players with at least 15 individual match victories.

As a team, Haverford reached 10 or more wins for the fourth consecutive season in 2019-20, finishing with a record of 11-8, and will take the No. 31 ranking into next year by virtue of a seventh place showing at the Conroy Cup at February's CSA Team Championships.
