HAVERFORD, Pa. - The No. 29 Haverford College men's squash team (1-1) was defeated by No. 7 Drexel (1-0) at the GIAC Squash Courts on Friday evening, in the opening game of the annual Penn Cup. The two teams were meeting for the first time since the 2015 season, while Drexel was making its first trip to the GIAC since February 6, 2013.

Matias Knudsen got the best of Noah Tunis, who stepped into the top flight (11-2, 11-0, 11-1) valiantly for the short-handed Fords. First year Aaryaman Jaising was a highlight at the second flight for Haverford, battling Dickinson transfer Nicolas Serna before falling 11-5, 11-5, 11-5 in a spirited back-and-forth that captivated the lively home crowd.

The Dragons' Yuri Pollak Pelbart was victorious over Ben Schiltz (11-4, 11-0, 11-1) at the third flight while Filip Krueger defeated Kai Schinaman at the fourth position (11-4, 11-4, 11-2) to secure a tally for Drexel. Noel Heaton registered the win at the fifth flight, eclipsing John Collins (11-0, 11-0, 11-3), while Shaan Dalal was also a winner over Garret Fantini (11-4, 11-2, 11-1).

Shomari Wiltshire took down Matt Sullivan (11-2, 11-3, 11-3) while Gautam Nagpal got the win over Ali Nurkhaidarov at number eight (11-3, 11-1, 11-2). Zadoc Bond fell to Nicolo Abou Taleb at the ninth flight (11-3, 11-3, 11).

Haverford now continues Penn Cup action on Saturday, heading out to Lancaster for an 11 a.m. first serve against Chatham. The contest with the 13th-ranked Cougars is scheduled to take place at Franklin & Marshall College. Chatham (10-5 a season ago) is a relative upstart in the College Squash Association, but the Pittsburgh-based squad has sprinted up the rankings in just its fifth season as a varsity program.
