HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's tennis team gave No. 38 Stevens a battle on Wednesday afternoon but ultimately came out on the short side of a 6-3 match. Haverford won three of the six singles matches and forced decisive third sets in two others. The Fords were also in all three doubles matches before being edged out during the final points of a tough setback.

Starting off with extremely competitive doubles matches throughout the lineup, the Fords jumped out to 4-1 leads at both No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. However, the Ducks overcame those early deficits as they rallied to win both matches. In the top doubles match, Josh Moskovitz and Kevin Yan had the early advantage on the No. 16 pairing in the national rankings before Stevens came roaring back. At No. 3 doubles, that early lead helped Arnav Patodia and Nick Sweeney force an eventual tiebreak, but they were edged 7-3 in the extra points.

During the middle doubles match, George Jiang and Pranav Krishnan were on serve for the majority of the match and trailed just 6-5 heading into what ended up being the final change over. Unfortunately, Haverford's No. 2 pairing saw its service game broke before Stevens held serve in an eventual 8-5 win.

The Fords got singles victories from Kevin Yan, Nick Sweeney, and Arnav Patodia. In the first wave of matches to hit the courts, Yan won a thrilling three-set match at No. 2 singles. He came back from dropping the first set with a 6-3 win in the second. He followed that up with a 6-4 third set win to run his record to 5-3 this spring with his eighth victory overall dating back to the fall season.

Sweeney and Patodia were the last two matches to hit the courts. Both players came away with straight set victories, winning by identical 6-3, 6-2 scores. Playing at No. 5, Sweeney evened his spring record at 3-3 in singles and has now won six matches overall this year. Patodia earned his win at No. 6 singles to even his record at 4-4 this spring.

Stevens won the other three singles matches, but the Fords made the visitors work for every point they got. George Jiang and Pranav Krishnan both dropped heart-breaking three-set matches. Each of Jiang's sets at No. 3 singles finished 6-4 as Haverford's first-year won the second to force a decisive third. Krishnan prevailed in a second set tiebreak to force his third set. He won the tiebreak by a 7-5 score. At No. 1 singles, Josh Moskovitz was edged out by 6-4 scores during both of his sets.

Men's tennis will now open its Centennial Conference schedule this Saturday as the Fords welcome Dickinson to campus. First serves in doubles for that match are scheduled for 12 p.m.
