BALTIMORE, Md. – The 17th-ranked Haverford College men's tennis team (14-4) fell to 10th-ranked Johns Hopkins (11-7) by a 7-0 score on Friday evening on the campus of Johns Hopkins University. The non-conference match, originally scheduled for Saturday, April 26, was moved up a day due to a forecast of inclement weather for Saturday afternoon.
Johns Hopkins claimed the doubles point with wins on all three courts. Marco Azar and Muhkundh Boopathi defeated Teo Bortan and Zach Miano 6-1 at No. 3. Allen Gong and Chakor Rajendra followed with a 6-4 win over Marko Arboleda and Owen Kilmer at No. 2. At the top spot, Daniel Ardila and Dylan Blenkiron, the nation's 15th-ranked pairing and fourth in the Atlantic South, edged the Atlantic South's No. 8-ranked duo, James McKenzie and Justin Minerva, by a score of 7-5.
Azar extended the lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Chait Krishna at No. 6, and Gong followed with a 6-0, 6-2, victory against Niki Lavu at No. 4. The match was clinched on the top court, as Rajendra, the nation's 28th-ranked player, got the better of Arboleda 6-1, 6-4.
Johns Hopkins added to its total with a 6-1, 7-5, win from Zahari Stoimenov over Minerva at No. 5. Ardila, ranked 38th in the national singles rankings, then defeated Kilmer 7-6 (10-8 tiebreaker), 6-2, on court three, and Blenkiron closed out the sweep with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, win over McKenzie on the second court.
With the regular season now complete, Haverford will await its semifinal opponent in the Centennial Conference tournament after earning a first-round bye with its win over Ursinus back on April 22. Action is slated for the Bramall Courts at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 1.
