HAVERFORD, Pa. - The 16th-ranked Haverford College men's tennis team (15-4) collected a 4-0 victory over No. 36 Franklin and Marshall (9-1) in the semifinals of the 2025 Centennial Conference tournament. The win sends Haverford to the Centennial Conference Championship match on Saturday, May 3, as the Fords have reached the final for the first time since the 2012-13 season.
With just one doubles point on the line, the Fords captured the coveted tally with victories on court one and two. On the second court the Haverford duo of Marko Arboleda and Owen Kilmer turned away Soren Rudin-Aulenbach and Luke Brodsky 6-3, before James McKenzie and Justin Minerva prevailed 6-4 over Zac Ashtiani and Gonzalo Gentou on court one, to hand the Fords the 1-0 lead. On the third court the match between Zach Miano and Teo Bortan and Tucker Chesman and Jack Gorman was abandoned at 4-4 due to Centennial postseason rules that require playing the doubles point to decision.
The fifth court saw the first singles victory of the day, as Scarlet and Black senior Justin Minerva downed Gentou 6-0, 6-1, for the Fords second point of the match. McKenzie followed up his doubles partner with a victory on the second court, as the senior defeated Ashtiani 6-2, 6-0, to give the Scarlet and Black a commanding 3-0 lead.
Clinching the all-important fourth point of the match was Owen Kilmer, who claimed a 6-2, 6-3, win over Samuel Donnelly, to secure the 4-0 victory for the Fords. The singles matches for Arboleda, Niki Lavu, and Chait Krishna, were abandoned due to playing to decision.
Men's Tennis will move on to the Centennial Conference championship match on Saturday, May 3, against the number one seed No. 8 Swarthmore. The match with the Garnet in Swarthmore, Pa., will start at 1 p.m.
