NEW YORK – Haverford College freshman Charlie Marquardt raced to first place in the college division mile Friday afternoon at the Lafayette/Rider Winter Games Invitational, hosted on the banked track of The Armory. Several of Marquardt's track & field teammates joined the newcomer in posting fast times at the meet.

Marquardt's time of 4 minutes, 13.80 seconds captured heat 1 and held up over the final two heats. His time would have placed sixth in the championship division of the event, contested later in the evening. Converted from the Armory's banked track to the NCAA-standard flat track, Marquardt's time shifts to a 4:17.05 which is 21st fastest among the nation's Division III runners, and slides up into the No. 4 spot among Centennial Conference runners.

Two Fords posted career-best times in the 3,000-meter run Friday with a third falling just 1.29 seconds short of a career mark. David Roza finished fifth in the 3K with an indoor career best of 8:46.43 and Jeffrey Duncan posted a new best time (8:53.75) with his seventh-place finish. Sam Fujimori was sixth (8:48.17) falling just shy of his career best.

Sam Callon joined the party with a career best in the 60-meter dash. His time of 7.40 seconds is now 12th-fastest in the Centennial.

In the pole vault, Michael Iannacone cleared a personal best height -- indoor and outdoor -- of 4.20 meters (13 feet, 9.25 inches) to finish fifth in the college division Friday.

The final meet of the regular season will be a home event for the Fords who will host the Keogh Invitational on Friday, Feb. 15 at The Gary Lutnick Tennis and Track Center in Alumni Field House. The Centennial championship meet follows on the next weekend, on Saturday, Feb. 23 at Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pa.
