MEDFORD, Mass. – Sophomore Charlie Marquardt of Haverford College's men's indoor track & field team broke the Gantcher Center record in the mile run Saturday afternoon at the 2014 Tufts Stampede, winning the event with a time of 4 minutes, 10.97 seconds that now ranks second-fastest in Division III this winter.

Marquardt's collegiate-best time was one of several strong performances from the Fords.

Joining Marquardt in the front of the pack in the mile was teammate Sam Fujimori who also recorded a collegiate best with a third-place time of 4:23.78.

In the afternoon's longest race, the 5,000-meter run, a trio of Fords dominated the race which was won by Haverford's Christopher Stadler in a time of 14:29.68. Trailing close behind was Avi Bregman (14:37.99) in second place with teammate David Roza (14:48.07) in fourth. All three are within the top 10 nationally with Stadler moving up to second, Bregman sitting in fifth and Roza in seventh. Both Bregman and Roza set collegiate best times with their Saturday results at Tufts.

Marquardt and Gebby Keny cracked the top eight in the 800. Marquardt finished fourth while Keny was sixth.

Sam Callon, Dorvil Gabriel and Jonathan Yellets had a strong day for the Fords in the sprints. Gabriel was eighth in the 400, Yellets was eighth in the 200, and Callon was ninth in the 200 and 14th in the 800.

Keny, Yellets, Chris Gardner and Gabriel teamed up for the 4x400 relay and finished third in a time of 3:30.92.

Haverford's indoor season continues Saturday, Feb. 8 at home in The Gary Lutnick Tennis and Track Center with the Seamus McElligott Invitational beginning at 11 a.m.
