Marquardt Wins Mile Event at NY Gotham Cup

NEW YORK – The Haverford College men's indoor track team started the 2015 portion of its schedule at the New York Gotham Cup on Friday at the 168th Street Armory. In a 76 person field that had many Division I runners, junior Charlie Marquardt ran the best mile time with a 4:12.4.

The junior was about a second faster than Vince Perozze of La Salle, the second place finisher. His time was the fastest time in Division III this year by almost two full seconds. His 4:12.4 would be the 25th fastest time among all levels of the NCAA. Senior Soren Rasmussen had the 25th best time (4:26.55) while his teammate senior David Roza was right behind him in 26th (4:27.10). Rasmussen's time gives him the ninth best time in Division III while Roza's 4:27.10 places him 11th.

Freshman Henry Woods won his heat in the 3000m event (8:44.17), good for 18th among the 65 runners in the event. His 8:44.17 places him among the top 10 best 3000m Division III times this year. Sophomore Alex Frost set a personal best with a 7.49 in winning his 60m heat.

Senior Chris Gardner was 33rd (2:00.25) in the 800m run among 91 runners. Sophomore Julian Schneider just missed his personal best in that event, placing 48th. Junior Jeffrey Ainsley finished 43rd in the 60m hurdles (8.73).

The 4x800m relay team finished ninth out of 16 teams, beating Division I foes La Salle, Buffalo and St. Peter's.

Senior Alex Smith set his personal best in the shot put at 12.05m, finishing 34th.
