Men's Indoor T&F hosts Keogh Invitational

HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College men's indoor track and field team hosted the Keogh Invitational on Saturday afternoon at the Alumni Field House. The Fords took home one individual title and set multiple personal records.

In the second annual Eddie Papalia '05 800m memorial run, Ishmael Muhammad of Villanova ran the best time (1:52.65). Junior Charlie Marquardt finished second (1:55.08), making him the highest non-Division I runner in the field. Sophomore Julian Schneider was 10th (2:01.02) in a field of 38 runners while senior Chris Gardner (2:01.30) placed 11th. Sophomore Michael Brier finished in the 14th position (2:01.81) which set a personal best. Junior Ryan Gooding finished in the top half of the field (17th) with a time of 2:02.70.

The 4x200m relay team ran the fastest time (1:32.83) over Widener and Swarthmore. Haverford had the two best 4x400 relay teams with the A team running to a 3:33.62 and the B team finishing with a 3:38.69.

Freshman Henry Woods finished fifth in the mile (4:19.42) behind four runners from Division-I University of Pennsylvania. Brier broke his personal best with a 4:20.19 while senior Soren Rasmussen also broke his career best (4:21.84) to finish ninth. Freshman William Bassett broke his previous best time by 19 seconds (5:00.94).

Sophomore Alex Frost picked up a fourth place finish in the 60m dash (7.46) while junior Jeffrey Ainsley was right behind him in fifth.

Junior Jonathan Yellets was second in the 400m (52.11) while senior Sam Callon was just two-tenths of a second behind (52.24) to place third. Yellets (23.53) and Callon (23.59) would again finish second and third, this time in the 200m event, just three-tenths of a second behind the winner Wyatt David of Penn (23.24).

Eric Arnold '12 won the 3000m event (8:23.38) over senior David Roza (8:28.47) who finished second. Roza's time was eight seconds faster than his previous best mark. Senior Joel Christian nabbed a top five finish (fifth) and smashed his career best by 11 seconds (8:34.0). Senior Jeffrey Duncan also had a personal best time (8:47.66) which put him 10th. Sophomore Jimmy Gorman was just outside the top ten (11th) with a time of 8:50.33 while junior Nicholas Gandolfo-Lucia's 8:50.67 was also a new personal record. Evan Hamilton also has best 3000m time (9:06.39) to finish in the 19th position.

Freshman Daniel Sax won the triple jump (12.84m) in his first ever attempt in the event. It was the highest jump of the season for the men's indoor track and field team. Senior Alex Smith was third (12.15m) among 12 throwers in the shot put. Senior Chaz Schneider finished third in the high jump of 1.75m.

Head coach Tom Donnelly's team will host the Centennial Conference Championships (Feb. 28-March 1) next week. The Fords have finished second in the last two conference championships to Johns Hopkins, but have 17 conference championships in the Centennial's 21 year history.
