BOSTON - Haverford senior Greg Morgan advanced to the finals of the 3,000 meters at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships, posting a time of 8:22.36 to finish second in the first heat at the Reggie Lewis Center.

Morgan, an All-America performer in the mile a year ago, entered with the top seed time in the event. The Hollidaysburg, Pa. product was content to stick towards the back of the pack until about four laps to go, when he made a swift charge to the front. The USTFCCCA Mideast Region Track Athlete of the Year was running in first down the stretch until a late push from Sean McAneny of SUNY Geneseo knocked him into second.  The first heat was by far the faster of the two flights, as the top seven times from the initial heat were all faster than the winning time of the second heat.

The top four from each heat, plus the next four best times all advanced to tomorrow's final. The finals will be contested at 4:55 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, as Morgan joins a crowded field that includes McAney, Nolan McKenna of North Central, Chase Hampton of Otterbein, William Mitchell of Carnegie Mellon, Lucas Mueller of Carleton, Aidan Ryan of Williams, Dhruvil Patel of North Central, Caleb Appleton of Wartburg, Ryan Cutter of Chicago, Sam Brunette of Plymouth State, and Marcos Garcia of Beloit.

Live video and results for all of Saturday's action in Boston will be provided via the NCAA's website. Fans can access the portal via the links at the top of this page.
