HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford junior men's indoor track & field athlete Matt Katz has been named the Centennial Conference Track Athlete of the Week for the second time in this young indoor season, the conference office announced on Tuesday morning.

Katz competed at the NYC Division III Invitational on Friday at the prestigious NYC Armory complex, pacing a field of 34 runners in the 3,000-meter race. Katz outran a pair of Centennial Conference foes to capture the title, eclipsing his personal best in a time of 8:34.01. The time was 22 seconds better than his previous PR.

Katz toed the line before Matthew Kleiman of Johns Hopkins and Jason Richwall of Muhlenberg to earn the event title. Two weeks after earning the CC weekly honors after establishing the top mile time in the Centennial, Katz is near the top of the 3,000-meter leaderboard as well, as his mark is just narrowly behind a pair of Johns Hopkins performances at the Albany Great Dane Classic after a banked track conversion. After the aforementioned conversion for NCAA qualifying purposes, Katz is currently the 36th-best 3,000 meter time in the nation.

Haverford will return to action on Saturday, heading up to the Boston area for the Tufts Cupid Challenge. Action is slated to begin at approximately 10 a.m.
