PHILADELPHIA - Three legs of Haverford's Centennial Conference gold medal-winning distance medley relay team have been honored as Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area selections. Senior Sam Ditkovsky joins junior Matt Katz and sophomore Jamie Moreland on the 11-member squad. Haverford's three selections were the most of any area institution and Haverford has now had multiple honorees for the third consecutive season.  In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least their second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better.

Ditkovsky, of Weston, Conn, is an astrophysics major who earned the award after a breakout senior campaign. He was named a USTFCCCA All-Region selection for his role on Haverford's DMR, and has been named to the Centennial Conference Academic Honor Roll in each season of eligibility for that award. Ditkovsky studied at University of Toronto's Dunlap Institute in the summer of 2019, focusing on a cosmic phenomenon known as isocurvature perturbation. His abstract "isocurvature sensitivity of upcoming galaxies" was published in the Bulletin of the American Astronomical Society in January 2020.

Katz, from Huntington, N.Y., had a stellar junior season for the Fords, emerging as one of the best milers in the nation during the indoor campaign and posting the 17th-best mark in all of Division III in that event. Katz picked up USTFCCCA All-Region designation for the mile as well as the distance medley relay, and was an NCAA qualifier in the mile. The Fine Arts and Growth & Structure of Cities double major was named the Centennial Conference Track Athlete of the Week on three occasions, earning the honor on January 21, February 4, and February 25.

Moreland, a Los Angeles native, captured a pair of gold medals at the Centennial Conference Championships, as he came away with the crown in the mile, as well as running a leg of that distance medley relay that rose to the top of the podium. In addition to those gold-medal winning performances, Moreland also picked up a bronze in the 800 meters after crossing in third in that event. Moreland was named a USTFCCCA All-Region award winner last month, picking up certificates in both the mile and distance medley relay. Moreland, also an NCAA  mile qualifier, was the third straight indoor Outstanding Performer of the Meet from Haverford, and the 10th in program history on the track side.

The Men's Track & Field program now has 32 total Academic All-Area selections from the Philadelphia Inquirer, including three performer of the year awards.
