Full USTFCCCA Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford College men's track & field junior Matt Katz and sophomore Jamie Moreland have each been named Division III Indoor Track & Field All-America honorees, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced in a release on Tuesday afternoon. The pair both took home the prestigious honor for their indoor mile performances during the 2019-20 season. Katz and Moreland are both first time recipients. A total of 675 athletes from 161 different institutions were honored on Tuesday.

In lieu of conduction of the national championship this season, which was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the USTFCCCA Executive Committee adopted criteria that all student-athletes declared and initially accepted into events at the national championship would be named to All-America honors for the 2019-20 campaign.

Katz, a product of Huntington, N.Y., took the 11th seed in the mile (4:14.29), as the All-America award caps an impressive indoor campaign that featured three Centennial Conference Indoor Track Athlete of the Week awards. Katz emerged quickly as one of the best milers in the nation during the indoor season and posted the 17th-best mark in all of Division III at the Keogh Invitational on the Haverford campus.

Katz picked up USTFCCCA All-Region designation for the mile as well as the distance medley relay. The Fine Arts and Growth & Structure of Cities double major was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team for track & field last month.

Moreland, of Los Angeles, Calif. was named the Centennial Conference's Outstanding Indoor Track Performer in March after capturing a pair of gold medals in Lancaster. Moreland is the third consecutive winner from Haverford, and the 10th in program history on the track side. He came away with the crown in the mile, as well as running a leg of the distance medley relay that rose to the top of the podium.

In addition to those gold-medal winning performances, Moreland also picked up a bronze in the 800 meters after crossing in third in that event. Moreland was the 13th-seeded entrant in the final NCAA performance list with a mile mark of 4:14.41. Moreland also earned a spot on the Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area team last month.

The Haverford program has now seen 66 indoor All-Americans and 11 individual national champions. Haverford has garnered at least one indoor All-America honor in each of the last three seasons, with Greg Morgan '19 capturing the national championship in the 3,000 meters a season ago.
