Gearinger, Woods Represent Haverford at Prestigious Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA – The Haverford College men's outdoor track & field team had two entrants in the 5,000 meter race at the prestigious Penn Relays on Thursday evening. Junior Dylan Gearinger and senior Henry Woods represented Haverford in the meet, which is the oldest and largest outdoor track & field event in the United States.

Gearinger finished 13th overall with a time of 14:14.68. Gearinger's time was a new personal record and the second-fastest by a Division III entrant, trailing only ninth-place finisher Grant O'Connor of RPI. In addition to recording the second-fastest Division III time on Thursday, the time was also the second-fastest in Division III this season, eclipsing the previous fastest mark by nearly seven seconds.

The indoor 3,000 meter national champion ran the fourth-fastest outdoor 5,000 meter time in the illustrious history of the Haverford program, becoming just the fifth Haverford runner to post a sub-14:20 mark.

Woods finished 33rd overall with an 11th place finish in the second of three heats, crossing in a time of 14:26.94. The two-time cross country All-American raced near the top of the pack of his heat throughout the race at Franklin Field and was the top Division III finisher in his section.

With a weekend off from competition upcoming, Gearinger and Woods will next look to capture conference titles at the 2018 Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which will run from Friday, May 4 to Sunday, May 6 at Ursinus.
