GENEVA, Ohio – Haverford senior Reza Eshghi finished 14th overall in the 5,000 meters preliminaries at the NCAA Division III Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon at the SPIRE Institute. With that finish, Eshghi earned Second Team All-America honors, which are awarded to places 9 through 16 in each individual event at the national championships.
NCAA Division III record holder Chasen Hunt captured the national title in 14:10.51, pulling away over the final laps to finish ahead of runner-up Quinn White of Pomona-Pitzer and third-place Emmanuel LeBlond of Johns Hopkins.
Eshghi crossed in 14:29.01, having made an impressive move from ninth to the front of a large pack and settling into a smooth, confident rhythm. With two laps remaining, he was right in the mix, holding steady among the top three as the field began to compress. In a thrilling final stretch filled with surges and strategic jockeying for position, Eshghi battled hard as Hunt of Lynchburg surged ahead. Ultimately, Eshghi fell back when the dust was settled to finish 14th.
