Full Centennial Conference Release
HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford Women's Basketball senior Anna-Sophia Capizzi has been named the Centennial Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced in a release on Tuesday morning. Capizzi keyed a 2-0 week for Haverford, averaging 24 points and shooting 55.2 percent from the field as the Fords grabbed victories over Eastern and Ursinus, pulling to a 4-1 overall record to begin the season.
The Chevy Chase, Md. product began the week with 25 points in 30 minutes in the victory at Eastern, connecting on a trio of three-pointers as the Fords cruised to a 24 point win over the Eagles. Defensively, Capizzi notched four steals to match a career best.
In the conference opener against Ursinus, Capizzi continued her torrid start to the 2019-20 campaign with 23 points in just 28 minutes, burying four shots from beyond the arc, collecting three rebounds, and dishing out a pair of assists as the Fords prevailed over the Bears by 25.
Capizzi has registered three contests with 20 or more points this season after pouring in a career-best 27 in the season lid-lifter against Immaculata. The biology major currently ranks third in the Centennial Conference in points per game (17.6), and leads the Centennial in three-pointers (12) and steals (15).
This is the first weekly honor for Capizzi, who was named an honorable mention All-Centennial Conference selection in 2018-19 as the Fords captured the Centennial Conference championship and earned a second consecutive NCAA tournament berth.
The Fords return to action tonight, facing off with Catholic at 6 p.m. inside the Gooding '84 Arena. The matchup is Haverford's first with Catholic since 2006, and represents the final non-conference game of the 2019-20 slate as well as the final home contest of the 2019 portion of the schedule.
