Haverford Supports CAADC with 19th Annual Hoops from the Heart Clinic

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's and women's basketball teams once again came together to host the 19th annual Hoops from the Heart Martin Luther King Jr. Day youth basketball clinic last week at the Gooding '84 Arena. In total, the clinics raised over $7,500 for Community Action Agency of Delaware County (CAADC) homeless shelters.

A total of 260 children participated in the event, including 120 at the Haverford location. Four basketball clinics were held throughout the county, with instruction taking place at Cabrini University in Radnor, Haverford College, Neumann University in Aston and Widener University in Chester. Haverford players and coaches had the unique opportunity to teach and instruct the fundamentals of the game during the morning session, while also sharing their knowledge and joy for the game of basketball.

In addition to operating shelters and daycare facilities for individuals and families in need, the CAADC provides many vital services including welfare to work programs and food and fuel assistance to families in our community. All of the Hoops from the Heart participants gave generously to the CAADC food bank as non-perishable food items were collected at each site. The Haverford Township Recreation Department was again a co-sponsor of the event at Haverford College.

Since its inception in 2002, the Hoops from the Heart initiative has raised approximately $137,000 for the CAADC.
