PHILADELPHIA -  Haverford College women's basketball senior Anna-Sophia Capizzi has added a Philadelphia Inquirer Academic All-Area Women's Basketball team selection to her myriad of postseason honors, the Philadelphia Area Sports Information Directors Association (Philly-SIDA) announced in a release on Wednesday morning.

Capizzi picked up the award for the first time, as a Haverford player was selected to the five-member squad for the fourth consecutive season. Last year, Macy Goldbach '19 picked up the award, while Sierra Berkel '18 and Samantha Wetzel '18 were both honored in 2018. Berkel also earned the plaudit in 2017, becoming the first Haverford receipient in the process. In order to be eligible for Academic All-Area honors, an athlete must be in at least his or her second year at the institution and hold a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20 or better. The team is voted on by the sports information offices of the more than 30 area institutions from the Philadelphia metropolitan area that compose Philly-SIDA.

Capizzi, a WBCA Honorable Mention All-America selection as well as a D3Hoops.com All-Region pick, was the Centennial Conference Player of the Year in 2019-20, guiding the Fords to a second consecutive Centennial Conference crown while also earning postseason tournament MVP. The Chevy Chase, Md. native took home Player of the Week honors on four separate occasions, leading the conference in points per game (19.2) while shooting .449 from the field. Capizzi tallied in double-digit scoring in all but one contest during the season, and tallied 20 or more points in 14 games.

Haverford rattled off a program-record 11 consecutive victories from January 15 to February 19, as Capizzi started all of those contests and logged 30 or more minutes on 18 separate occasions. Haverford posted a program-best 18 conference wins in 2019-20. The biology major currently holds the program record for points in a single season (526), eclipsing that mark against Johns Hopkins in the regular season finale on February 22. Previously, Capizzi etched her name into the Haverford record books by scoring her 1,000th career point against Muhlenberg on February 12, also taking over the program single-season record for three-pointers in the process. Capizzi has 78 career three-pointers and finishes her Haverford career sixth in program history in total career points (1115).
