Bobbi Morgan is set to begin her 14th season as Haverford College’s women’s basketball head coach in 2021-22. This upcoming season will mark her 35th overall as a head coach. She is a three-time Centennial Conference Coach of the Year and was recognized as the WBCA Regional Coach of the Year on one occasion.

Morgan’s Haverford teams have seen unprecedented success under her tenure as the Fords enter the year following back-to-back Centennial Conference Championships. They have advanced to the NCAA Tournament during each of the past three seasons. Morgan has led Haverford to a total of three Centennial Conference Championships (2014, 19, 20) and four appearances in the NCAA Tournament (2014, 18, 19, 20). Haverford has qualified for the Centennial Conference Tournament during each of the past nine seasons as Morgan holds a 195-120 record during her time with the Fords. Her record after 16 seasons as a college head coach stands at 261-161.

During the 2020 championship season, Haverford came within one win of the program record as the Fords were 23-5 overall, including an 18-2 record in Centennial Conference games which earned them the right to eventually win the conference title on their home floor. Anna-Sophia Capizzi ’20 became the first player in program history to be named the Centennial Conference Player of the Year. She was later recognized as an honorable mention WBCA All-American and nominee for the NCAA Woman of the Year. As a team, Haverford ranked fourth nationally in scoring defense (47.0 ppg).

Morgan’s teams have consistently been a force defensively. The 2018-19 Centennial Conference Championship team allowed just 47.7 points per game to rank third in the nation. That season culminated in the second round of the NCAA Tournament as the Fords posted a 43-point win over Rosemont College during the first round. The current run of three straight NCAA Tournament appearances began in 2017-18 season when the Fords reached the NCAA Tournament via an at-large bid after finishing as the conference runner-up.

With constant growth from year-to-year since her start at Haverford, Morgan’s team first broke through in 2013-14 with the first Centennial Conference Tournament Championship in program history. The squad, which still holds the program record for wins (24), also won its first-ever game in the NCAA Tournament with a 53-48 victory over Rhode Island College in the first round. The season of program firsts continued on an individual level as Nina Voith ’13 was named the first All-American in program history. Voith, the 2014 Centennial Conference Tournament MVP, graduated with a program-record 1,411 points in her career.

In addition to her coaching duties, Morgan previously served as a four-year member of the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball National Committee from 2014-18, including a stint as chair from 2016-18.

Morgan came to Haverford from Cabrini College where she was the head coach for four seasons. At Cabrini, Morgan notched 66 wins and averaged 16.5 wins per season. In 2007-08, Morgan guided the Cavaliers to a 21-7 record, the team’s first Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) title since 1999 and an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.

She took over at Cabrini after a highly successful 17-year high school coaching career at The Academy of Notre Dame in Villanova (1986-89) and Haverford High School (1990-04), compiling an impressive 326-139 career mark. Morgan took Notre Dame to the District 1 Class AA title game in 1988-89 and crowned the season with the school’s first PIAA state playoff berth. At her next stop, Morgan turned Haverford High into a perennial District 1 powerhouse while winning six Central League titles and qualifying for the PIAA Class AAAA State Playoffs seven times.

A Bryn Mawr native, Morgan is a 1981 graduate of Haverford High School. Her high school basketball coach was Julie Soriero, Haverford College’s first-ever women’s basketball coach, who recently retired as the Director of Athletics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Morgan went on to play basketball at the University of Richmond, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism in 1985.

“I’ve always respected Bobbi’s ability to analyze and appreciate the game,” said Soriero. “She has a wealth of experience and passion for competing.”

Outside of coaching, Morgan spent 15 years as a journalist. She worked as a news and feature writer at the Main Line Times and Main Line Times Sunday. She then worked as a staff sports writer for the Delaware County Daily Times before taking over as the managing sports editor of the Main Line Times in 1990. During her years as a journalist, Morgan won six Keystone Press Association Awards for best writing in various categories including sports writing and sports column writing. She also won a Philadelphia Press Association Award for best writing on her series on “College Recruiting: How To Play The Game To Win.”

Morgan lives in Havertown with her husband, John. They have three children together, Patrick, Connor, and Reilly Ann.
