WEST POINT, N.Y. – First year foilist Hanna Kopits earned second-team All-National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association (NIWFA) honors at the 90th annual championship meet over the weekend. As a team, Haverford placed seventh overall.

Kopits fenced the "A" slot for the foilists and led them to a fifth place finish in the squad standings. Kopits qualified to the direct elimination draw with a 6-3 overall record against the other "A" fencers. In the direct elimination bouts, Kopits advanced to the quarterfinals where she was eventually credited with a fifth place finish. In doing so, she became Haverford's highest placing foilist since Katie Elbert '14 took fourth at the NIWFA Championships during her senior season.

Zuyi Wang added three wins to the foil squad out of the "B" pool to finish in eighth place among those fencers. Jia-Ming Tuan went 4-5 overall in the "C" bouts and was credited with a fifth place finish in that pool. Foil's finish was the Fords' highest placement for that weapon squad since the 2015 championship.

Haverford's sabrists were credited with a six place squad finish. Anna Neuheardt also qualified to the direct elimination bouts out of the qualifying rounds. She went 4-5 overall against the "A" fencers to place seventh in that pool. She finished the day in 10th place, coming up just shy of All-Star status for the second time in as many events. Emily Brown earned Haverford's highest place in sabre as she was fifth with a 4-4 record in the "C" pool. Krystal Li was also 1-0 during her only turn in the "C" lineup. Co-captain Alexandra Morrison placed seventh in the "B" pool. She recorded three wins in the team portion of the championship.

The epee squad placed 10th overall. Valentina Zavala-Arbalaez found the most success in that weapon as she was 3-2 against pool "C" competition while Claire Cai also subbed into the lineup for three bouts. Both Lauren Pronger and co-captain Amanda Soled recorded one win in their respective "A" and "B" slots in the lineup.

Women's fencing will now turn its attention to the NCAA Regional where the Fords will vie for spots in the NCAA Championship this coming weekend. The Mid-Atlantic/South Regional – which is widely considered the top regional – will be hosted by Lafayette this season. Fencing is scheduled to get underway at 9 a.m.
