HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Haverford College women's fencing team put together a strong showing in its home debut with a second place finish inside the Andy Kates Fencing Salle during the Dan Arnstein '09 Invitational. The Fords' afternoon was highlighted by the epee squad toppling Johns Hopkins to go unbeaten as a weapon while six different fencers boasted winning records at the end of the meet. Although falling in the overall team score to rival Johns Hopkins, the Fords secured strong victories against William & Mary and Navy.

Sarah Blossom was the standout star on the undefeated epee squad as she went a perfect 8-0. Katie Bradley also recorded two wins against Johns Hopkins and defeated each of her three opponents against W&M to finish her day at 5-1. Maia Carvalho also took a bout from Johns Hopkins and went on to win two of three against Navy. Claire Cai added five wins to the epee squad with three victories against W&M and two more against Navy.

Captain Anna Neuheardt led the sabrists with six victories as her squad secured triumphs against W&M and Navy. Neuheardt went unblemished during those victories. Emily Brown also went 3-0 against W&M and added two more wins to her squad's total against Navy. The senior finished her day with five victories. Maria Yea contributed to the Haverford's victory against Navy, capping her day with a victory during the final round.

Golda Glasser (6-3 overall) was a shining star for the young foil squad. She won at least one bout during each round of fencing, securing three wins against W&M and two more against Navy. Fellow first year Sofia Nicolayevsky added victories against W&M and Navy as only having a short-handed squad due to injuries prevented squad victories in the team's first and third bouts of the day.

Women's fencing will return to the Andy Kates Fencing Salle in two weeks for its final competition before the winter break as the Fords host the Tri-Co Invitational on Saturday, December 1. Fencing that day is set to get underway at 11 a.m.
