PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Continuing its tough schedule during the month of January, the Haverford College women's fencing team competed at the Philadelphia Invitational on Saturday. Facing primarily Division I competition, the Fords were led by the foil squad as it defeated Ivy League foe Brown and had several other close matchups throughout the afternoon.

Sophomore Hanna Kopits led Haverford's foilists with a 5-4 overall record. During the squad victory over the Bears, the Fords' ace was a perfect 3-0. Haverford's result against Brown marked a three-win improvement for the squad from just a week ago. First-year Golda Glasser picked up an additional two victories against Brown and finished with four bout victories overall. Jia-Ming Tuan and co-captain Zuyi Wang earned hard-fought victories for the foil squad. Those two joined Glasser as all three took bouts from North Carolina just one round after topping the Bears.

Haverford's young talent consistently impressed with first-year Sarah Blossom leading the epeeists. Blossom led epee with three victories. Her best round came against host Penn as she posted a 2-1 mark, helping Haverford also do better in that rematch from just one week ago. Junior Katie Bradley added wins against Brown and NYU, while first-year Maia Carvalho notched the squad's point against North Carolina.

A short-handed sabre squad competed without ace and co-captain Anna Neuheardt. Nevertheless, it fought admirably throughout the day. Haverford's sabrists were paced by senior Emily Brown as she recorded victories against Brown and North Carolina.

Women's fencing will take the week off from official competition as the Fords welcome back their alumnae on Saturday for the annual Alumnae Bouts & Reception. Always a highlight of the year for everybody involved, Saturday's festivities will get underway at 11 a.m. inside the Andy Kates Fencing Salle. Haverford returns to the competition part of its schedule on Sunday, February 3 when the team treks to MIT for the Sollee Invitational.
