CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Haverford College women's fencing team headed to MIT and the Sollee Invitational on Super Bowl Sunday. With another challenging competition facing the Fords, Haverford responded with a thrilling 14-13 win against the host Engineers.

The Fords' victory over MIT was the first since the 2014 Sollee Invitational and just the second in program history. Haverford's foilists were key in the victory as they posted a 7-2 squad victory in enemy territory. Continuing to shine throughout the day, that weapon was strong overall as it also defeated Brandeis during the final round of fencing. Haverford's epeeists came through with a huge 5-4 win during the matchup with MIT where every single touch mattered. Although sabre ultimately went to MIT, Haverford's sabrists did find success with a 6-3 squad win against rival NJIT.

Leading the Fords' foilists was Hanna Kopits. The sophomore sensation bounced back from a tough start to her day and went 10-2 during her final four rounds in the lineup. She bookended her day with 3-0 marks against both Division I Brown and Brandeis. Kopits also notched two key victories against MIT and Boston College. Jia-Ming Tuan got her day rolling with a perfect 3-0 record during the team's win against MIT. Golda Glasser was at her best when the team needed her most as she claimed two wins against MIT. She added to her squad's success with additional victories against Brown, NYU, and Brandeis.

Katie Bradley led Haverford's epee squad with 2-1 marks during three different rounds. She posted two wins in the tight matchup with MIT, replicating that feat against NYU and Brandeis to finish her day with seven individual victories. Maia Carvalho won five bouts, including a key 2-1 record against the host Engineers. Carvalho started her day by contributing wins during each of the first three rounds. Sarah Blossom made her victory count as she recorded it against MIT, while Claire Cai's three victories were highlighted by a 2-1 performance against Division I Boston College.

Co-captain Anna Neuheardt worked her way back into the sabre lineup and finished with a 5-4 winning record. She showed no ill effects of the time off as she blitzed NJIT with three straight victories to start her day. Neuheardt later added wins against Brown and MIT throughout the afternoon's action. Fellow senior Emily Brown also tallied five victories. Her best performance came with two wins against NJIT to start the day. Maria Yea contributed crucial bout victories against NJIT and MIT, while first-year Sofia Nicolayevsky appeared in the sabre lineup and won a bout against NYU during the second round.

Facing some of the toughest competition across the entire NCAA during the early part of its spring semester schedule, women's fencing will now look to make this experience pay off when the Fords turn their attention to the championship season. Haverford will have the upcoming weekend away from competition but will return to the strips on Sunday, February 17 for the EWFC Championships at Hunter.
