Epee Leads the Way for Women's Fencing at Sollee Invitational

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Haverford College women's fencing team began the month of February at the Eric Sollee Invitational on the campus of Brandeis this past Saturday. The Fords' epee squad headlined this weekend's efforts as it defeated Stevens and Brandeis throughout the competition as both matchups were decided by thrilling 5-4 scores.

Maia Carvalho led the epee squad with seven wins throughout her time in the lineup and was key in both victories as she went a perfect 3-0 against the host Judges and added two more victories against Stevens. Katie Bradley posted a 3-0 record of her own during epee's victory against Stevens and split her two bouts versus Brandeis. Sarah Blossom aided in the squad victory with Brandeis while also tallying a win against Brown. Yuqin Wu also found success for the Fords when she entered the lineup against New York University.

Foilist Hanna Kopits led all Haverford fencers with eight victories. She registered at least one win during each round of competition, notching two victories versus both MIT and Brandeis. Squadmate Golda Glasser also went 2-1 against MIT before closing her strong day with wins against Boston College and Brandeis. Co-captain Zuyi Wang got in the win column for the foilists with a strong performance against Ivy League foe Brown.

Haverford's sabre squad got wins from Caroline Donado, Megan Heflinger, and Maria Yea. Donado was yet another fencer to turn in a strong performance during the team's final round against Brandeis as she was 2-1 against the Judges. Heflinger and Yea registered wins over Boston College and Brown, respectively.

With the beginning of championship season just two weeks away, the Fords will head to Baltimore this Sunday, February 9 for the Johns Hopkins Invitational. Fencing on Sunday will get underway at 9 a.m. and take part alongside the men's team competing in the MACFA "A" vs. "C" bouts.
