Five Named All-CC For Women's Lacrosse

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Five members of the Haverford College women's lacrosse team were honored with spots on the 2019 All-Centennial Conference team, the conference office announce in its annual postseason awards release on Wednesday. Senior attacker Allie Gibbons and junior defender Anna Meyers were awarded first team designation, while junior attacker Julia Manetta was named to the second team. Junior defender Emily Krupnick and junior midfielder Maeve Gaffney were also named honorable mention. Senior midfielder Sarah Svetec picked up a spot on the All-Conference Sportsmanship team.

Gibbons, a co-captain of the Haverford squad, earns her first selection to the first team after taking home second-team honors in each of the last two seasons. The Baltimore, Md. native had an impressive senior season, as she started all 18 games for the Fords, logging 81 points and 69 goals, the second-most in program single-season history. She tallied multiple goals in each contest this season, and paced the Centennial in goals by a wide margin. Her 30 goals in conference games was second in the grouping. Gibbons also tallied 21 caused turnovers, including 11 against conference competition. Against Christopher Newport in the season opener, Gibbons set a new program record with an 11-point outing in Haverford's 21-14 win. Gibbons also matched the program's single-game goals record in that late February triumph.

Gibbons finished the season 39th in the nation in goals scored. She leaves the program fourth in career history in points (224) and goals (178) as she joined rarefied error as one of just seven players in Haverford history to rack up 200 points. Her goals per game tally (2.62) and points per game mark (3.29) are also in the top 10 in program history.

Meyers had another standout campaign defensively to register a second consecutive first-team nod. The Hopewell Junction, N.Y. product was a vital member of a fortified back line for the Fords in 2019. Meyers recorded 30 caused turnovers, scooped 36 ground balls, and added 20 draw controls in another well-rounded season. She recorded multiple caused turnovers in four conference games, including a career-best five in a win over McDaniel on March 23.

Manetta, of Commack, N.Y., proved to be one of the most prolific assisters in the nation as she tallied 64 assists, a mark that is currently second in Division III, and is just one assist off the lead. Her assists per game total (3.56) is currently fourth in all of Division III. Manetta will enter her senior season as Haverford's all-time leader in assists (135) and assists per game (2.70), and she also recorded the program single-season record this year. Manetta's seven assists in the season opener against Christopher Newport are also the most in program single-game history. In conference competition this year, Manetta logged 32 assists, to go with four goals. Proving to be a go-to option on the forward line, she added multiple helpers in all but one conference game.

Krupnick had a standout junior season, excelling in conference games with nine caused turnovers and 16 ground balls. The Mountain Lakes, N.J. native helped Haverford clinch a second consecutive trip to the Centennial Conference playoffs with a pair of caused turnovers in a must-win game against Swarthmore (Apr. 27). Krupnick was also a stalwart in Haverford's narrow loss at then-No. 6 Franklin & Marshall on March 30, helping to set the tone defensively for a second-half comeback by the visitors.

Gaffney, from Barrington, R.I. ,emerged as a primary threat in the midfield for the Fords starting all nine conference games, tallying 13 goals, controlling 19 draws, scooping 12 ground balls and causing nine turnovers during the campaign. Gaffney recorded a point in each of Haverford's Centennial Conference contests this season, had six games with multiple ground balls, and three with multiple draw controls.

Svetec, of Lititz, Pa., capped her career with a stellar season in the midfield, as she leaves Haverford with 100 total draw controls. The co-captain started all 18 games this season and tallied seven goals, 26 ground balls, and 15 caused turnovers.

Haverford finished the year with at least 10 wins for the fourth time in the last five seasons and joins the 2013 and 2015 squads as Centennial Conference semifinalists, after also achieving a national ranking in the IWLCA poll for the second straight campaign.
