Maria Krieg Named to CC All-Sportsmanship Team

Full Centennial Conference Release

HAVERFORD, Pa. - Haverford women's lacrosse sophomore Maria Krieg has been named to the Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship team, the conference office announced in a release on Monday afternoon.

Sportsmanship is one of the pillars of NCAA Division III and the Centennial Conference. The Centennial Conference All-Sportsmanship Teams recognize student-athletes who exemplify the fundamental values of respect, fairness, civility, honesty, and responsibility both on and off the field or playing surface.

Krieg has been a consummate teammate and vocal leader for the Fords despite having the early part of her career sidetracked by injuries. She was voted as a class representative for the program's sophomores and also helped chair the program's signature cake fundraiser.  Despite missing the team's spring break trip to Virginia Beach due to surgery, she compiled a video tribute to the senior class just days into recovery, and then made the trek from her home in Long Island back to campus, returning to Haverford to welcome and support the squad back to campus after the season was halted shorted.

In addition to the All-Sportsmanship team nod from the conference, Krieg was recently named a finalist for the One Love Foundation's 2020 Yeardley Reynolds Love (YRL) Unsung Hero Award. This award recognizes the accomplishments of men's and women's collegiate lacrosse players from Divisions I, II and III who demonstrate dedication, integrity, humility, hard work, community service, leadership, kindness and sportsmanship.

The One Love Foundation was founded in honor of Yeardley Love, a former member of the Virginia women's lacrosse team who was tragically killed by an abusive boyfriend just weeks before graduating. One Love's mission is to educate young people about healthy and unhealthy relationships, empowering them to identify and avoid abuse and learn how to love better.

Krieg, a product of Farmingdale, N.Y., appeared in four games as a reserve in 2019, including a caused turnover and a ground ball in a victory over Arcadia on March 5 of that season. She missed the entirety of the shortened 2020 season due to injury.
