Women's Lacrosse to Open 2023 Campaign With No. 24 National Ranking

2023 ILWomen/IWLCA Division III Poll – Preseason

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's lacrosse team will open up the 2023 campaign with the No. 24 ranking in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association/Inside Lacrosse Division III Women's Poll, the two organizations announced in a joint release this afternoon.

The preseason poll marks the second consecutive season that the IWCLA and Inside Lacrosse have jointly presented the poll. The ILWomen/IWLCA Poll will be unveiled Mondays throughout the season beginning Monday, February 27. It is voted on jointly by coaches throughout the country and members of the media.

Haverford finished its 2022 season with a trip to the NCAA Tournament, the program's first since the 1991 season, earning the No. 25 ranking in the final IWLCA Poll unveiled on May 31 of that year. The Fords (12-6, 7-2 CC) were ranked as high as No. 22 in the rankings, and entered the postseason holding steady to that rank. Haverford bowed out after a tough fight against No. 6 Franklin & Marshall in the Centennial Conference semifinals and were forced to sweat out a potential at-large berth to the NCAA tournament, a call they enthusiastically received with a trip to Ithaca College to do battle with local foe Cabrini in the first round, falling 18-15 in that NCAA First Round showdown in New York.

The 2022 National Champions, Middlebury earned 36 first-place votes in the ILWomen/IWLCA DIII Poll, while second-ranked Tufts earned one. No. 5 Gettysburg and No. 6 Franklin & Marshall were the other Centennial Conference teams to earn a national ranking in the preseason release.

Haverford opens up the 2023 campaign on Tuesday, February 21 at 4 p.m. against Cabrini at Swan Field. The contest will be a rematch of the NCAA First Round contest between the two teams last season. In total, the schedule features four games against teams ranked in the poll (#5 Gettysburg, #6 Franklin & Marshall, #12 York, and #22 Pomona-Pitzer), and one against Christopher Newport, a team receiving votes.
