Fords, Bears play scoreless OT periods in 1-1 draw

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Despite registering a nine-shot advantage over two extra periods of play, Haverford College's women's soccer team played to a 1-1 double-overtime draw at Ursinus College on Wednesday night at Patterson Field.

An early goal gave the Bears (2-5-4, 0-2-4 Centennial) the lead but Haverford (7-2-1, 2-1-1) was able to draw even 10 minutes later at the 20:34 mark with a goal from Connie Friedman, her first of the year.

Coming off a free kick opportunity, Friedman was able to corral a ball from Allie Chen to beat Ursinus goalie Kara Dijoseph for the equalizer.

Regulation time was played evenly as each team registered a total of 11 shots. Ursinus had an edge in scoring opportunities forcing Fords goalie Robin Chernow to make eight saves over the game's first 90 minutes.

The overtime periods were a different story, though, as Haverford dominated possession getting off 10 shots while limiting Ursinus to just one during the two 10-minute periods. Several of Haverford's shots deflected off the goal frame including Sarah Hoffman's shot at the buzzer that clipped the crossbar as the final horn of the second overtime sounded.

Chernow finished with eight saves and Dijoseph registered five in the tie.

Next up for the Fords is a Centennial Conference match-up Saturday at 1 p.m. from visiting Franklin & Marahall College.
