Women's Soccer Edged by Gettysburg, 1-0

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The No. 22 Haverford College women's soccer team entered Saturday's match at Gettysburg unbeaten through the first eight contests of the season. That streak, which at the time was the hottest start in program history, came to an end with a 1-0 road defeat.

The Bullets (5-1-3, 2-1 CC) used a goal from Alexa Bushey in the 80th minute to come away with the late victory. A defensive stalemate throughout the contest, the two sides were limited to just 11 combined shots over the 90 minutes of regulation time. The Fords (7-1-1, 0-1-1 CC) took four of those shots in the Centennial Conference clash.

Haverford evenly split its shot attempts for the game with two in each half. The Fords' first chance at goal came just over three minutes into the match when Skyler Ellenburg sent a shot wide of the net. Haverford's other run at goal in the opening half came in the 16th minute when a take from Maryanna Solecki cleared the crossbar.

The Fords' second half chances came in a span of two minutes when Kristen Fiore and Jo Haller sent shots wide in both directions during the 61st and 63rd minutes of play. Haverford also had a pair of corner attempts for the match, both of which came during the first 45 minutes.

Gettysburg's goal came on its fourth corner attempt of the afternoon. On the initial play into the box, the Fords' defense blocked down the original shot by Julia Ramsey. However, the ball popped up into the air and was headed in by Bushey for the game's lone goal.

Defensively, Haverford faced seven shots from the hosts on Saturday. Just two of those shots were on target with Kathy Prescott recording a save on the wet field conditions. Her counterpart, Eliza Gray, did not have to make a save for the shutout victory.

Women's soccer will look to bounce back from its first defeat of the season this Wednesday as the Fords welcome Ursinus to Walton Field. Wednesday evening's Centennial Conference matchup is set to get underway at 4 p.m.
