ANNVILLE, Pa. – The Haverford College women's soccer team scored three times in the span of just 8:13 to turn a 1-0 lead into a convincing 4-0 victory at Lebanon Valley on Saturday. Those three goals came during the second half as Haverford rung up its highest offensive output since these two teams started their annual matchup during the 2009 season.
Leanne Ludwick recorded a career-high four points as she started the aforementioned second half scoring spree and assisted on two of the other goals. Celia Page and Marina Piccolo both scored the first goals of their career against the Dutchmen while Gabrielle Cipriano also found the back of the net during the victory. Haverford's six goals through three matches have now been scored by five different players.
Both teams finished the first half with five shots. However, only the Fords were able to capitalize as Page's first career goal came when she found herself inside the six on the receiving end of Ludwick's cross during the 24th minute of action. Lebanon Valley had three shots on target during the opening 45 minutes, but all were denied by Haverford goalkeeper Hannah Friedrich who finished the match with four total saves.
Like the opening half, the Fords recorded five second half shot attempts. However, they certainly made the most of those chances as three of those efforts found the back of the net. Ludwick put the second half blitz in motion as she scored for the second time this season, giving her 11 goals during her career.
Just over five minutes after putting her side up 2-0, Ludwick found Cipriano on a nicely played through ball which Cipriano was able to finish in one touch and put the Fords up 3-0. Haverford's fourth goal of the afternoon came shortly after one of the team's four corner kicks. Originally put inside the 18 by Ludwick, Piccolo was able gather the loose possession off of a scramble inside the box to connect for the first goal of her career.
Haverford finished the match with just a slight 10-9 edge in shots but was much more efficient in the attacking third as six of those attempts were on target. A strong defensive effort limited LVC to just four shots on goal, all of which were handled by Friedrich as she recorded the second solo shutout of her career to go along with her two combined clean sheets.
Women's soccer heads back on the road this coming Tuesday as the Fords make the quick trip to Eastern for a 4:30 p.m. start. Following back-to-back road contests, Haverford will be home four straight times during a home stand that is capped off by the Centennial Conference opener.
