Women's tennis rolls past McDaniel

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team captured its fourth straight victory with an 8-1 win over visiting McDaniel College on Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action.

A dominant performance in doubles pushed the Fords (6-2, 2-0 CC) to a 3-0 advantage and the team continued to roll past the Green Terror (1-7, 0-2) with straight-set victories in five of the six singles contests.

The top doubles pairing of Caitlin Gallagher and Alex Ferrara led the impressive effort by moving to 6-2 this spring with a sparkling 8-0 win over Kiersten Patron and Elise O'Meara.

Ferrara was just as dominant at No. 2 singles as she blanked Danielle Cloney (6-0, 6-0) for her seventh singles victory of the season.

Gallagher, currently the 19th-ranked singles player in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South Region, was equally as impressive as she kept her spotless singles record (8-0) intact with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Patron.

Celia Tong, at No. 4, and Kristen Andersen, at No. 6, also surrendered just one game in their wins over Sophie White and O'Meara, respectively.

Playing at No. 3, freshman Robyn Himelstein accounted for Haverford's final point with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Barnett.

The Fords, ranked 12th in the Atlantic South, return to action on Wednesday when they take on visiting Ursinus College at 4 p.m.
