Fords take down Ursinus to remain perfect in conference play

HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team remained perfect in Centennial Conference play this season as the Fords took down visiting Ursinus College, 8-1, on Wednesday evening on the  The Gary Lutnick Tennis & Track Center courts in Alumni Field House.

Registering its fifth consecutive victory of the season, Haverford (7-2, 3-0 CC) swept the doubles portion of the match to set the tone for the night. The top pairing of Caitlin Gallagher and Alex Ferrara led the way as they captured their seventh win of the spring with an 8-1 victory over Heather McMasters and Jessica Tyrrell.

The Fords, ranked 12th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Atlantic South Region, continued to roll past the Bears (4-6, 0-3) in singles as they claimed points at five of the six singles positions. Freshman Robyn Himelstein, playing at No. 3, blanked Tyrrell (6-0, 6-0) and Ferrara, at No. 2, dropped just one game (6-0, 6-1) to Audrey Whitebloom to improve to 8-1 in 2013.

Gallagher, the 19th-ranked singles player in the Atlantic South entered the match undefeated in singles this spring and the sophomore kept her spotless record intact with a convincing 6-0, 6-2 victory over McMasters.

Looking to continue its impressive start to the Centennial slate, Haverford returns to action on Saturday with a 10 a.m. contest against visiting Franklin & Marshall College.
