HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College women's tennis team captured it sixth straight victory with a 7-2 win over visiting Franklin & Marshall College in Centennial Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Leading 2-1 after doubles play, the Fords (8-2, 4-0 CC) received gigantic efforts from up and down the singles lineup. Sophomore Caitlin Gallagher, at No. 1, remained perfect this spring in singles play by rolling past Anya Sahaydachny in straight sets (6-1, 6-1). Moving to 10-0, Gallagher reached double figures in wins for the second consecutive year as she went 15-5 during her freshman campaign.

While Gallagher made quick work of Sahaydachny, the rest of the squad needed to dig deep to claim victories in several close contests. Alex Ferrara, playing at No. 2, persevered for a 7-5 first-set win over Megan FitzMaurice before closing out the match with a 6-0 victory in set two.

Senior Celia Tong and freshman Robyn Himelstein battled for Haverford's next two points of the day. Tong, at No. 4, pulled out a first-set tiebreak and Himelstein, at No. 3, edged Julia Fiala in a match that saw two tiebreaks.

Playing at No. 6, junior Kate Donches, in her first action of the spring, came from behind in a third-set tiebreak to outlast Meredith Lackey and account for the Fords' final point of the match.

The top pairing of Ferrara and Gallagher and the second duo of Himelstein and Tong delivered victories in the doubles portion of the match.

Taking down the Diplomats (3-5, 1-3) for the sixth consecutive time, Haverford, ranked 12th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South Region, remains undefeated in conference play.

The Fords will look to continue their winning ways on short rest as they head to Johns Hopkins University on Sunday for a match against the Blue Jays. Johns Hopkins, the defending Centennial champion, is currently ranked fourth in Division III.
