Women's Tennis Rolls Past McDaniel, 8-1

WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Haverford College women's tennis team got the conference season off to a great start with an 8-1 win at McDaniel on Saturday. The Fords (3-4, 1-0 CC) allowed just one game in doubles and won in straight sets during each of their singles victories against the Green Terror (1-4, 0-1 CC).

With a lineup that featured 10 different players, only Ali Morrow and Izzy Angstman were entered in singles and doubles. However, their doubles match was a default victory with the Green Terror only entering five players. Emily Shutman and Jane Bary rolled to an 8-0 blanking in the No. 1 doubles position. The match was the pairings first together, but Bary is now 5-0 in doubles while Shutman recorded her fourth win of the season in doubles. Jessica Liu and Clara Farrehi teamed up for what was their second straight win in as many matches as a duo.

Courtney Ahmed took the default win to start singles play. Angstman was credited with her second win of the day as she allowed just one game during the second set of her match in the fifth singles spot. Angstman's win marked the first in singles of the first year's collegiate career. Her doubles partner, Morrow, allowed just one game in each set as she now leads the Fords with six singles wins on the year. Maya Ahmed matched that 6-1, 6-1 scoreline of Morrow in recording her first victory during her collegiate debut.

Rory Lewis took over the No. 1 singles position and cruised to a 6-1 opening set win. She clinched the straight set win with a 6-4 second set in her favor. Her win was the first of her spring season. The Green Terror got their only point of the match at No. 4 singles with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 match.

Women's tennis will be back at home this Wednesday as the team welcomes Muhlenberg to campus for a 4 p.m. match. That Centennial Conference battle will bring to a close the month of March as eight more conference meetings await the team in April.
