ORLANDO, Fla. – The Haverford College women's tennis team recorded a second straight 6-3 win on Wednesday night in Florida. The Fords (3-1) have now won three straight matches overall after taking four singles wins and adding two more doubles victories against Wisconsin-La Crosse (12-3).

Reversing the traditional match sequence and starting with singles, Haverford recorded three straight-set wins to jump out to a big lead. Reigning Centennial Conference Player of the Week Jane Bary allowed just two games to her opponent at No. 2 singles, both of which came in the second set. Like the team, Bary has now won three straight matches. Clara Farrehi made it 2-0 Haverford with her identical 6-3, 6-3 set scores at No. 5. Farrehi has now won two straight singles matches.

Greta Koch was the third singles match to finish in straight sets. After a 6-2 triumph in the first set of the No. 3 singles match, Koch needed a tiebreak but emerged 7-5 in extra points after she and her opponent evenly split the first 12 games. The team co-captain is now tied with a season-high five wins in singles dating back to the fall season. Emily Shutman won her third straight singles match at No. 4 for the Fords' fourth team point in singles. Down a set, the sophomore rallied for a 6-2 win in the second and claimed the 10-point tiebreak via a 12-10 tally.

At the top of the lineup, Julia Gan played a very competitive match with the No. 40 ranked player in Division III. She fell in a tiebreak by a 7-6 (5) score in the first set and took four more games off of her opponent in the second. Haverford made Wisconsin-La Crosse earn every point it received as Sam Berg took her opponent to a 10-point tiebreak as she got the jump with a 6-3 win in her opening set. However, the teams ended up splitting the 10-point tiebreak matches with No. 6 singles going to Wisconsin-La Crosse by a 10-5 score.

Haverford needed just one win in doubles to secure the team victory and got that early on as Haverford won No. 2 and No. 3 doubles in short order. The second pairing of Julia Gan and Greta Koch remained unbeaten in its third straight match played together, an 8-6 victory. The No. 3 doubles team of Sam Berg and Clara Farrehi were 8-5 winners.

Wisconsin-La Crosse earned its only point of doubles at the No. 1 position, but once again the Fords conceded little. Matched up against the No. 22 team in the Division III ranks, Jane Bary and Emily Shutman played to an even 8-all match after 16 games against their opponents. Even the tiebreak needed extra points before the Fords' No. 1 team came out on the short end of an 8-6 tiebreak.

Women's tennis will wrap up its competition schedule for the week with a 10:30 a.m. match against Mount Holyoke on Thursday.
